Well, it was just a matter of when and who - Las Vegas casino operators using social networking technologies to promote their wares.
Actually, some of their affiliates, such as the Light Group, have been using these tools for some time... but now the big kahuna, MGM Mirage, is getting into the act through a new site called the Vegas Concierge.
The new Web presence uses Facebook and Twitter to push short bursts of info to users. I expect every other operator to follow at some point.
For those not already aware, we have a Twitter account for this site and I also have one of my own.

Hey speaking of MGM, today I just heard from "vegas today and tomorrow" that the skylofts just got the 5 mobil star rating! I guess that Wynn isnt able to say "the only hotel in Las Vegas to recive a 5 mobil star rating" anymore!
Yeah, they did. Straight from the lion's mouth: http://www.mgmgrand.com/press_room/press_room_releases_template.aspx?ID=448
Hunter's question about getting a winow-ful of Sphinx butt cracked me up. That must have been a different one from the one with the peeling wallpaper and broken alarm clock?
Hmm, no mention of a Mobil Five Star rating in that press release. Skylofts doesn't even qualify if I recall correctly. They don't have their own restaurant or pool.
VT&T is the only source and I can tell you for a fact that it's single-handedly causing a stir at Wynn with some employees. Maybe it's true, but then, that same update says the Tower Suites are located on the north side of the tower so yeah...
Yeah, the 'Sphinx's ass' thing actually happened - a little while back. Terrible view but we got lots of mileage out of the joke.
Actually, to their credit, their Twitter persona replied saying that while they don't love the Sphinx's ass, they're sure the reservationist would try to help out. :-)
Yeah, on second thought, Mike is right, I think. I saw that press release and jumped the gun. Sorry, I've been doing a lot of work here lately and my computer access is limited to the point where I was browsing at a library earlier this week because everything here at home was down.
Anyway, I'll give the Luxor guy credit, he's answered everything I've thrown at him, even about some of their future plans.
Thanks Mike_E, that's an important distinction re the 5 stars. VT&T describes both as "hotels within hotels," but now we see why Wynn Tower Suites has its own designated pool area and claims a couple Wynn restaurants as its own....
(Sure, Tableau is within Tower Suites but it's been mentioned here that Alex and Wing Lei are technically part of WLV overall, and the pool area is separate in name only as it overlaps the physical area of the main pool -- an understandable plumbing consideration, but enough to qualify Tower for the Mobil award apparently.)
