ARIA, the main hotel component at City Center, is taking reservations starting today. The first night for regular guests is December 17.
The Web site for bookings, which also contains some new renderings of the property and rooms is here:
Rates for opening night are currently at $299 (ouch) for what is normally a very very slow week in town. We'll see if those come down.
Reservations for Vdara, the condo hotel next to ARIA, are expected to open today as well [online here - thanks Mike P!] for dates starting in October. Not sure what it will be like to stay in what will still be a construction site in the delta between those two openings.
This is the first opening of a [ed: Las Vegas] hotel for MGM Mirage since the company was combined in 2000.

Didn't the MGM Grand hotel in Detroit open in 2007?
Yes, of course that's correct. Also MGM Grand Macau.
I updated the post to include the words 'Las Vegas' which were in my head but didn't make it to the keyboard.
Thanks!
I'd imagine the rooms will be discounted via outlets like Travelocity, Expedia, etc - like other high end joints do, but if they think they're going to fill up the place with the current quoted prices they're dreaming. Yea I want to check the place out, but when I can get an Air/Hotel package to Bellagio or Wynn for the price of a room alone at Aria it just doesn't make sense. If this January was an indicator for next January, I think they'll go down to the $130-150 range. the place is too big to limit themselves to the wealthy market, maybe 2 years ago, but not now.
looking at the floor plans of the basic rooms at ARIA, i am confused on how the tub and shower aspect work, to get to the tub you have to walk through the shower? then the tub is behind the shower? essentially glassed in? or am I just visualizing it wrong?
TC from Boston, it sure looks like you're right. One has to walk through the shower to get to the tub. Weird. None of the suites have this design flaw.
I probably shouldn't start the Bellagio-Wynn-Aria comparison aqain, but Aria's rooms and suites look chopped up to me with all the angular walls., just like the new M Resort. The suites don't "flow" between one bay and the next. The decor is more MGM Grand than Bellagio. Maybe I have to see Aria to appreciate it.
Good point about ongoing construction at Aria during the Vdara opening. Maybe there will be direct access to Bellagio.
I think they just want to get an early gauge of interest in the properties. MGM knows it is in big trouble and the early reservations should confirm it. I predict they will soon lower rates and steer customers from their other properties.
What if Mgm took over Cosmo?

Wow the floor plans for the bathrooms at Aria look weird! I love the picture they show of the view out the window of the “Rooms & Suites, Suites” page http://www.arialasvegas.com/rooms-and-suites/suites.aspx . I guess they expect that Cosmopolitan is going to be transparent when looking north from Aria towards Bellagio?
