I think it is so great that a reader of this blog goes to Macau and takes pictures. I love it. The only thing that really scared me was the picture of the Fisherman's Wharf "mountain". It looks very third rate theme park design to me. What is this for?

Can't wait to see what all these projects look like when they're finished.

Say, does this blog have like a feedback/submission system of some kind? I got a free stay at Wynn last week and have journaled my impressions as a guest. I figured I should at least submit it to the approval board. :)

Hopefully Chris (the person that took the photos) will reply but my understanding is that the wharf is a tourist attraction and the mountain is a volcano, not unlike the one at The Mirage.

Tom M is correct that Fisherman's Wharf looks a lot like a third rate theme park. Fisherman's Wharf will basically house restaurants, shops, some slots and a tables, convention space as well as a small hotel. See http://www.fishermanswharf.com.mo/. It is located in between the HK-Macau ferry terminal and the Sands and is being developed by Stanley Ho and David Chow. Despite the low-grade design, it has already attracted a surprising number of quality restaurant and retail tenants. They key point to keep in mind is that mainland Chinese love third rate theme parks. For a fine example of a third rate park you need search no further than "Window on the World" located in Shenzhen, China, which has been incredibly popular and features small-scale versions of famous buildings and structures from around the world.

I am generally in Macau once every 2-4 weeks. It is certainly exciting watching all these new facilities going up - and will be even more exciting being there for the openings. Will make sure to post new pictures after each trip.

I think I speak for all the blog readers when I say that we truly appreciate your insight and photos. A great look at these developments.

I hope to visit Macau once Wynn is open - it is certainly on my radar screen.

Those are excellent pictures. Maybe it's the gloomy weather in the photos, but they give Macau a sense of seediness not unlike Vegas circa 1988. Looks like history is about to repeat itself.

I have been to Macau and seen the poor quality of the five-star hotels that seem to be 3 stars in our standards. Do you think that the Wynn Macaus along with the Venetian, MGM Macau, and that 6 star hotel have the same level of quality as the Bellagio or even Wynn LasVegas?
I have observed that Asian luxary hotels such as the Conrads and hyatts are especially luxurious with amazing and modern rooms. Will Macau be as luxurious?
