This land is way too valuable for its current use so this was bound to happen... But an Elvis theme? Puke.
We'll see how much this project changes before it actually hits the drawing board, let alone the concrete machine.

And we were doing so well with new resorts in this town. An Elvis-themed resort seems, to me at least, that it would be just so cheesy. While I would like to see the real estate in question get developed to its highest and best use, surely the owners can come up with something better than the "Heartbreak Hotel".
Too cheesy for Vegas? WTF???
I know fans of this blog are also fans of the new "muted luxury" Vegas, but if this town didn't invent over-the-top, it sure put it's stamp on it.
Vegas and Elvis are joined at the hip, even if that hip is now artificial, not swivelling. They're both essential core elements of Americana, albeit perhaps to a previous generation. If this place is done well, it should bring with it a sense of history, more live music, and a Theme (gasp!) that gives it a real reason to exist and be visited.
Anything is better than the Hawaiian Marketplace!
I've never been an Elvis fan (don't shoot me!) BUT any new development that DOESN't include the dreaded words: sleak, modern, chic, hip, etc is OK in my book.
I am a proponent of the Citycenter direction for resort building myself. Building a resort themed on a long dead musician seems like a step backward to me.
Wait a minute. The same company, CKX, is going to produce a Cirque du Soleil-Elvis show at CityCenter across the street.

So I should like an Elvis themed hotel then? Love, Cirque's show based on the Beatles, is good I'm told. Should I in turn like to see a Beatles themed resort on the Strip?
Does this mean a Zumanity-themed casino is around the corner?
Sillerman has been wanting to do a an Elvis-themed hotel for quite some time. I thought he was still planning to do it over at Riviera. If he plans to build over at Hawaiian Marketplace that would be interesting. Hawaiian Marketplace really is an eyesore. I probably wouldn't stay there though. I'm a big fan of themed areas, but I can't imagine this resort to have the same level of luxury or service that I've come to expect from this town.
No matter who upscale various aspects get, and I am a big fan of that as anyone on this blog, Vegas isnt Vegas without a Big Slice of Cheese, and What says Vegas and Cheese better than the ol Elvis himself.
Mike T. There already is a Beatles hotel on the way, opening later this year, in the one place it should be.

With that in mind, I dont think there is anything wrong with the idea, and it has to be better than what's there now.
I wouldnt mind seeing it for the reasons above, but I am as skeptical as the rest, as to if it actually will happen.
