We spoke with 'Winner Takes All' author Christina Binkley a few weeks ago on the Vegas Gang Podcast. Personally, I enjoyed the book and I think that others would as well but Las Vegas freelancer Steve Friess pointed out a good number of, eh, 'issues' with some of the specifics and wrote about them on his blog and in his Las Vegas Weekly column: http://thestrippodcast.blogspot.com/2008/04/my-last-words-on-binkleys-book.html.
It seems Binkley's not backing down and is willing to back up her book. Well, to settle this once and for all I think the two authors should have a Las Vegas trivia show-down, broadcast live on the 'Net, to compete for their honor and to show all of us a good time.
Come on guys, what do you think? You in? I'll make it happen, you just have to show up (virtually).
Updated: Some people have asked me how this would work. Some of that is to be determined but I'm thinking sorta like a 'Vegas Jeopardy' type game with an array of questions on Las Vegas topics with each contestant accumulating points. I'd like to work in some sort of charity angle - still thinking of the best way to do that.
Updated Again: More on the back and forth between Binkley and Friess:

I'm in with one condition: Each of us has to put up $50, as does Hunter, and the winner gets to give the money to a Vegas charity of their choice. Game on.
Agreed.
But I'll double it and put in $100 - so it would be $200 total to charity.
Great! I'm hoping we can actually do it. Lots of fun for a good cause.
All you readers out there, start thinking of questions as I would solicit some from the readership. Do NOT post them here - we want all questions to be a surprise. You can send them to: editor AT ratevegas DOOOOT com
Now, I'm not sure Christina reads this blog so we need to make sure she's aware of the challenge.
Also, listeners/readers are welcome to pledge donations, too!
I've already registered my opinion on Christina's book (I thought it was great). In the interest of charity -- and because I don't lack in confidence -- I would happily compete and donate if either Christina and Steve decline to participate, or if you'd like a third competitor.
I'm in for $50.00, but does Christina even know we're planning this?
I emailed her to let her know.
This sounds exciting and fun. I like your style, Mr. Hunter.
It's a little more meager than the other offerings but I'd throw in a twenty for a good charitable trivia competition; can't wait to hear from Binkley!
I'll certainly donate and I think it's a fun idea, even if it does "trivialize" the issues Steve's raised...
Hunter, I'll be sending you some historical questions, so Steve and Christina might want to do some studying. :)
Will this be a FRIENDLY competition or an unfriendly one?
Christina has politely declined the offer so I'm talking to Steve to see what he'd like to do.
I'm still game and we have at least one other willing contestant based on the comments above.
