What is the best way to get around the strip? I have read that there are monorails between different hotels, but some are under construction. I also hear there is a trolley that goes up and down the strip. What is the current/future status of the monorails? Is the trolley a good option? Thanks for your help.

This is a question I’ve seen in various forms so I am glad you asked as we can cover all of it at once.
There are several ways to get around the Strip:
1. Walking – Many folks decide to walk between the hotels and the sidewalks are usually busy. Distances can be deceiving but it’s also a nice way to get some exercise.
2. Trams – Some hotels have trams that run between them. As of this writing (August 2003) the following hotels have operating trams: Mandalay Bay (to Luxor, Excalibur), Luxor (to Mandalay Bay, Excalibur), Excalibur (to Luxor, Mandalay Bay), Mirage (to TI), TI (to Mirage). The following trams are closed: Bellagio<→Monte Carlo (this will re-open late next year when construction at Bellagio is completed), Ballys<→MGM Grand (this will reopen next year as part of the Las Vegas monorail).
3. Trolley – There is a trolley that runs up and down the Strip. While inexpensive, it is often crowded and a very slow way to get between hotels.
4. Taxi – Many folks will take taxis between hotels. This is convenient but can get expensive.
5. CAT bus – Las Vegas’ bus system. Cheap transport that will take you all over town.
6. Las Vegas Monorail – opening in January 2004, this initially runs from the MGM Grand to the Sahara, with many stops in between. Eventually it will be expanded downtown and to the airport.
So, you have more than a few options. I hope that this helps.

We reserved obstructed view seats seven rows back on the side of the orchestra section to see “O” in October. The reservation lady suggested they are great seats with only minimal obstructions as the dancers enter and exit. What do you think? Thanks!

The seats that they sell as ‘obstructed view’ range from no real obstruction to large bars just feet in front of your face… Judging from your seat location and the assurance of the reservationist, it sounds like you have a unobstructed view of the stage and perhaps cannot see the extreme sides of the stage. You should be able to enjoy the show without difficulty.

We are thinking about relocating to nevada in about 2 yrs.We currently live in massachusetts.My current job is a roll-off driver( you know the dumpsters at all the construction sites) I currently make about $40,000 a yr. can you find out about what they make out there and where are some places I can check out on our next visit in april 04? any info would be greatly appreciated! p.s we took your advice and will be staying at the golden nugget instead of ti this time(something different) thanks again.

This is a question that I don’t think I am qualified to answer. Las Vegas has a thriving construction industry so I would expect this would be a needed profession but beyond that I really have no knowledge. Your best bet is probably trying to locate some industry related Web communities and asking around, or perhaps phoning some Las Vegas based construction companies. Sorry I cannot help more in this area. Have fun at the Nugget! By then it will be under the new ownership. I have a good feeling about the new guys, I think they’re going to work very hard to make the Nugget even better.

Hi, for New Year I can either book the Las Vegas Hilton or Ballys (for 07nts), not much difference in price. Which hotel would you recommend and why? Many thanks, Tracy

I would say Ballys. Ballys is located on the Strip while the Las Vegas Hilton is several miles from what many would consider the prime part of the Strip. The rooms at Ballys have been redone in recent years and I think you’ll be happy there.

They are located near the MGM Grand, next to the giant Coca Cola bottle… I have not personally used the service but I understand that they are only allowed to post the ticket information on their leader board… so you need to head out there to find out… They have a Web site here.

You buy tickets in person. They basically buy allocations of tickets to the popular shows and re-sell them to the public. Some shows do not participate, such as the two (soon to be three) Cirque de Soleil shows (O, Mystere and Zumanity). That said, sometimes you can find tickets here to other shows that are sold out, such as those at Caesars Palace, Paris, Ballys, Monte Carlo, Luxor, etc…

New Years Eve is a HUGE party in Las Vegas. The Strip is closed to vehicle traffic between Treasure Island and Excalibur, leaving it only open pedestrians. The last two years they have had fireworks displays launched from the roofs of the various resorts on the Strip. Having visited Vegas for NYE in the past I would recommend staying away from the huge crowds if you get claustrophic or anxiety. There are about 200,000 people in town for the holiday and most are on the Strip. It is VERY crowded and the police use barriccades so everyone is squashed together. Think of the lawn/pit area of a sold-out rock concert with everyone pushing each other against the wall and you’ll get an idea. On 12/31/2000 we saw several folks almost get trampled as some people freaked out being in such close quarters. Just make sure you’re aware of where you are and who is around you and you will be fine. Typically hotels will host parties and you almost always need a ticket to attend one of these. Contact the hotel you’re staying at to ask, though it is probably too early at this point. Most major production shows (Cirque de Soleil, etc…) offer special NYE performances that include champagne and a midnight toast. These also require tickets and I would book early if you intend to go since they are popular. The casinos downtown offer a part under the Fremont Street Experience canopy, which also requires special tickets. As the holiday grows closer, more information about specific events will be available. I’m planning on making the trek this year as well and I’ll probably station myself on the roof of one of the larger parking garages (Bellagio, Mirage, etc…) to get a good view of the fireworks and still avoiding the crowds. Great site! I’m going to Vegas in mid August and decided to spring for a penthouse suite at the MGM on the 29th floor. I’ve stayed in the Terrace Suite before, but wanted to try something new this time. The Penthouse Suite I have reserved is a 2BR, and I was told it is 3000 square feet, on two levels. Other than that, I know little else (aside from the high price!) Do you have any personal experience with these penthouse suites, and, if so, would you reccommend one? Nicer furnishings than Terrace Suite? Any extra perks to these suites? Thanks for your time!

Thank you very much. No personal experience with this type of suite but from what I understand it is basically an upgraded version of the terrace suite. It is a product that they don’t actively market to non-casino customers, which always means that it is a very nice room. They can be very hard to get since they are popular with their big casino customers. What I am told is that if you are looking for a very special hotel experience, this room fits the bill. Make sure you get a room that faces the Strip so you can take advantage of the fantastic floor to ceiling windows. I wish I could be of more help in terms of giving you details on this type of room. If you are so inclined, we’d love to get some details and even pictures upon your return.

I would take a look at the following hotels: the Rio, the Palms, the Orleans, the Stratosphere and the San Remo. Between those choices you should be able to find some good options. Note that the Stratosphere IS on the Strip but usually is very well priced.

We have been to vegas 4 times in the past 5 yrs,we have stayed at ti every time.we have always had a standard room with a great view.we are going back next march and want to try someplace different but we have been very happy at ti. I guess my question is should we take a chance somewhere else or just go to ti again?

There are a lot of great places to stay on the Strip. While I really like TI and often recommend it to others, I would suggest you try something different for your next trip… Have you considered the Mirage? Same great service as TI. Also, take a look at Paris. A bit different location but still a nice property. If you want to treat yourself, go for the Bellagio. Have fun!

My family and I are planning a trip for October 2003. I don’t know if I should book a room now or wait. I have noticed a lot of summer hotel specials being offered by strip hotels, but will they also offer promotions for the fall months? Thanks a bunch!

If you book a room now and do it through the hotel instead of a 3rd party (i.e. Expedia) then you’re almost always able to get a lower rate later (if offered) by calling the hotel and asking for it… So, book now… There are conventions on October/November and there will be less offers out there, plus rooms will fill up. Typicall Summer is heavily discounted while late Fall-early Winter is not.

Six of us guys (between the ages of 33-40) are going to Vegas on Labor Day weekend arriving Thursday. This will be our 4th year in a row. What’s the best club to go to on Thursdays that has a crowd whose age is mostly 25 and older?

Thursday can actually be pretty hopping… I would suggest the ghostbar at the Palms if you’re looking for a cool place for drinks. The crowd will probably be 21-35ish. Also try Caramel at Bellagio. For dancing Rain at the Palms or Ra at Luxor are good bets.

Great site! Only one question for now. My husband & I are planning an anniversary trip around May 8, 2004. I know that this is a ways off, but I was trying to get a price together for this trip so that hubby and I can save for it and I noticed most hotel sites don’t list their rates that far in advance. For the standard room, what is the average for hotels like The Mirage, TI, Aladdin, Bally’s etc. Thanks!

It can vary quite a bit depending on what is going on in town at that time… If a large convention is going through town that day, rates will skyrocket. Most of those hotels should allow you to check rates and book around August 1st. Generally, the hotels will probably be in the following order in terms of rates: Mirage, Aladdin, Treasure Island, Ballys… That said, the Mirage is increasingly offering great deals for what is an excellent hotel. Hunter, I’m haing a really tough time deciding between the “Hollywood Suite” and the “Celebrity Spa Suite” at the MGM. The Hollywood is a lot larger, and seems more like a “true” suite, while the spa suite has an “oversized whirlpool” in the bathroom. Both suites are aalways the same price, so I was wondering if I could get your opinion. Obviously, the opinion may change if the stay was going to be “romantic” or not, but just in general, what do you think? Thanks a lot!

You are correct that the Celebrity Spa Suite is basically an oversized guest room with a nicer bathtub. The Hollywood Suite is a true suite in that it has multiple rooms. The MGM considers the Hollywood Suite to be the more high end room but if the whirlpool is a big thing for you, I would go with the Celebrity Spa Suite. They’re both nice rooms, you just need to figure out exactly what you want. Have fun!

In my opinion there are two desirable views at the Mirage… One is the ‘Volcano View’ and offers you a view of the erupting volcano. They often charge a premium for this view… The view that I actually like more is the ‘Pool View’ which gives you a view of the pool, dolphin habitat and most of the South Strip… Personally I think this is more fun to look at since the volcano eruption is basically the same thing every time… As far as upgrades, some report success with the $20 trick, but I’ve personally never had any luck.

Great Site!!! My question is this… I am planning on going to Vegas In Early April, 2004. I originally wanted to stay at the Aladdin, but with them being sold, It makes me uneasy as to what is going to happen there with construction and such, so now I am contemplating either Bally’s or Luxor. Which hotel has the nicest standard rooms? Do you know how big the standard rooms are at each place? Which hotel in your opinion would I have better success at with the ($20 Trick)? If you have any other suggestions for hotels, I don’t have to stay at Bally’s or Luxor. I am just looking for nice rooms at a great price (below $90 a night). This is our fourth time out there but we are bringing my wife’s sister and it is her first. Thanks for your help.

While I personally feel that staying at the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood would be ok, your other choices are good too. I think that Ballys, with recent upgrades, offers a better standard room than the Luxor pyramid. The Luxor tower rooms are nicer than those in the pyramid but they are also further from the action. If you had asked me to suggest hotels in that price range I would have included Luxor, Ballys, TI, and perhaps the Aladdin, so you’re right in that same zone. I think that Ballys has a better, more central location than Luxor. It is easier to walk to more properties from Ballys. Either way, I’m sure you’ll have a great trip.

I’m throwing a surprise party for my sister in one of the MGM’s Terrace Suites and can’t find much detailed information about it on the Web. I have three questions for you: First, will 30-35 people fit comfortably in that suite? Second, do you know if it has an inside bar and stereo/CD player? And third, what do you think of the suite overall? Thanks for your help!

You may have noticed that we have a video of the Terrace Suites featured on our video page, here. The suites are about 1300 square feet so they should be able to fit 30+ people without too much trouble. The suite does have a bar outside on the terrace and the entertainment center should include a CD player. If for some reason your room does not have the CD player, the front desk can supply one for you. The room is very nice and unique for Las Vegas in that you can actually go outside on the patio! Have fun.

Does the Mirage offer airport check-in at the MGM desk at McCarran Airport? I thought it was only for the MGM Grand and New York, New York.

No they do not. The resorts that were added to the MGM Mirage family as part of the Mirage Resorts merger (Bellagio, The Mirage, Treasure Island and the Golden Nugget) do not have airport check-in.

This property is not on the Strip so your daughter will miss out on that part of the experience. I have heard that facility is clean but somewhat no-frills. I don’t know what your budget is but I would suggest checking at the following hotels: Mirage, Ballys, MGM Grand, Luxor, Treasure Island and the Flamingo. They are all on the Strip and often times offer great deals, even on suites. I think that staying on the Strip for her first trip as a legal gambler will really make the experience more memorable. My husband and I are staying at the Mirage in a Hospitality one bedroom suite July 20th-24th for our Honeymoon. Do you think your $20 dollar trick could get us upgraded to a better room?

Personally I doubt it. The hospitality suite is a pretty nice room as it is with quite a bit of square footage. They are also located in the elevator lobby for each floor so you don’t have to walk far to your room. The two types of rooms that are considered a step up from the hospitality suite are the tower suites and the penthouse suites. Both of those rooms are basically the same layout except the penthouse suites are on higher floors and have all leather furnishings. Both feature a living room, bedroom and huge bathroom… They are very nice rooms. For some pictures, check the Photos area of the site. I don’t think that a $20 will get you an upgrade… I would mention that you are on your honeymoon. I think that will get you a better chance of an upgrade. Either way, you’ll love your room and the Mirage. They just completed a renovation of their pool.

What is going on with the pirate show at Treasure Island?

The current pirate show has now closed as of July 2003. Treasure Island (TI) has been making several changes to re-position itself in the market towards a more trendy, young crowd. Part of this transformation is a new pirate show featuring ‘The Sirens of TI’, sexy dancers that will be featured in the new show. This new show should be ready to open on October 26th, the ten year anniversary of the opening of Treasure Island.

Can you tell me more about Steve Wynn renaming his resort from ‘Le Reve’?

In a move that surprised most, Steve Wynn changed the name of his new Las Vegas resort project from ‘Le Reve’ to ‘Wynn Las Vegas’. The reasoning is that his name is associated with a quality gaming experience and that by putting his name on the resort he will make sure everyone knows it is his joint… Expect more ‘Wynn’ resorts in the future. Wynn Macau (China) is already in development and we now hear that Wynn is looking at Monte Carlo… The last rumor I heard was that Franco Dragone was planning on using the name ‘Le Reve’ for the new Cique-like show that will be in the resorts showroom.

I will be coming to Vegas with some friends in a few weeks and I was wondering if anybody new how to get VIP passes to Rain and Ghostbar without reserving one of their cabanas or booths. There are a couple of ways… One is to be a big shot casino player… If that’s not your deal, Vegas.com sells VIP passes to skip the lines at the nightclubs and I have heard back from readers that the service works well.

I hope this isn’t too late to help… Thursday can actually be pretty happening, but nothing compared to Friday/Saturday. I would try the following: Light (Bellagio) – always pretty busy, Ghostbar (The Palms) – no dancing but a cool room, Rain (The Palms) – always busy, Babys (Hard Rock) – almost always packed. That should get you going… Have fun!

We have noticed they do not ofer shuttle service to and from the airport. What would you recommend to be the best service to take taxi/limo? Thank you for your help

All Las Vegas taxicabs are basically the same, regulated by the Las Vegas Taxicab Authority… If you want to go for a limo, I would give Las Vegas Limosine a call. They seem to have consistently good service.

I’ll be taking my first of two trips to Vegas this Summer during the 4th of July. I know there are a couple parks that will have firework displays, but are there any good views to be had of the shows from any of the hotels? We’ll be staying at the Rio but what about the Eiffel Tower at Paris or the Stratosphere, will they have any kind of parties where we can see the fireworks?

Most of the fireworks are offered in the outlying communities rather than on the Strip… Pretty much the only times you’ll see Strip fireworks are New Years Eve and hotel openings. If you really want to see fireworks, your best bet is to head out to one of the locations. The lights from the Strip can make it hard to really get good clarity on distant fireworks.

How would you rate Bally’s pool? I know it is not in the same tier as Mandalay Bay, or even Monte Carlo but would it compare with say Luxor or Golden Nugget?

Ballys pool is clean but no-frills. One interesting aspect of the pool at Ballys is that it is one of the only Las Vegas pools that is deeper than 3-4 feet… It is a full-size Olympic pool. It would compare favorably with pools at Luxor or the Nugget.

I am going to Vegas in October for a second honeymoon and want really nice accomodations. I at first thought the Bellagio, but I heard there is construction going on and it could be loud. I am now trying to decide between a concierge level suite in the new Venezia tower at the Venetian or a penthouse suite at the Mirage. They are about the same price, do you have any thoughts as to which is nicer?

The noise at Bellagio will effect you only at the pool, but it is a bit loud. As far as the Venezia tower at the Venetian, it is somewhat of an unknown quantity as it is yet to open. The grand opening of the Venetian proper revealed a few quirks they later worked out, so you might want to consider waiting until they get the bugs out. The penthouse suites at the Mirage are EXCELLENT. The room itself is top-notch, the staff and service are great. I can highly recommend this room from personal experience. If you flip through our Mirage photos, you will see several shots from this type of room.

About free drinks when you’re gambling – will they give you premium liquor if you ask or is it just well drinks?

Depends on what casino you are in and in some cases where in the casino you are playing… Most of the higher end casinos will give you what you ask for. It may help to tip the waitress when you order, so she knows she can count on a tip from you.

I’ll be visiting Vegas with a few friends August 14-17. If we book a Bella Suite at the Venetian, what kind of an upgrade do you think we might get if we try the $20 trick, assuming that it even works. I realize it depends on room availability but do you think the best we would get would be just a Bella View suite, or would we have a chance at getting one of their new Venezia suites, or even better, a Rialto suite? Any insight you have would be appreciated. Also, is their a minimum amount of money that someone would have to gamble in the casino in order to get some kind of a casino rate on a room? How would one even go about asking for something like that? Thanks a bunch and keep up the great work with the site.

I doubt you’ll have much luck with a $20 room upgrade at the Venetian… You can try, but I doubt it will work. As far as getting rated, you need to play at least 4-6 hours at $25/hand at the Venetian for them to consider a casino rate room. When you sit down, tell them you want to be rated and they will get you rolling… After your play, ask to see a host and see what you qualify for. Don’t be timid.

Why can I not get any hotel reservations between March 29 2004 and April 6 2004 when I search for accommodation availability on most LV web sites?
Is there a large convention in LV at those dates?
I am trying to fix up a trip to LV around those dates but I do not want to book flights until I get accommodation booked.

The reason those dates are tough is that they immediately preceed the National Association of Brodcasters (NAB) convention, which means about 120,000 people in town… If possible I would adjust your dates a bit forward or backwards to avoid that busy time.

My dad and I are going to Vegas for my birthday. I am 14 and this is my first time there. My parents are acutally at the mirage right now. I am excited about going. We booked a room at Luxor for 64$ a night. I think the Treasure Island and Mirage look classier in my opinion. What do you guys think of Luxor? Is it nice?

I just returned from a trip to the Luxor and I must say there is no comparison between it and the Mirage or Treasure Island. The level of service and the quality of facilities is so much great at TI and the Mirage, there isn’t really a comparison. If you can make the switch, I would do so. The Luxor isn’t horrible but it’s not great either.

Hello yet again. This site really is proving invaluable. I know it’s a way off but we’re staying in Vegas (Gold Coast) in June 9th – 23rd 2004 for two weeks. Me and the Mrs want to renew our vows while we’re there – can you recommend a nice chapel to do this and a limo company to take us from A to B please? Thanks! As far as a place to find a chapel, I would suggest browsing http://www.vegasweddings4u.com. The chapels outside of the hotels are not really my specialty… My favorite Las Vegas based limo operator is Las Vegas Limo. They are professional, courteous and reasonably priced. Give them a call. You shouldn’t need special documents for a renewal, but I would check with the chapel. Celine tickets go on sale in blocks and are currently selling through September of 2003. Nothing has been announced but my guess is that the tickets for next June will probably go on sale around January-February 2004. Tickets are available from TicketMaster.

Yes, there will be a fireworks display at Cashman Field amongst other places… There are parties all over town but not too many on the Strip themselves, mostly in the local communities. Have a great time.

I know that the Trop’s garden room’s are below standard but how do their Tower rooms rank up against 4* properties like Luxor, Monte Carlo or TI?

I would rank them slightly below rooms at the properties that you mentioned. They are nicer than your average Motel 6 type room but they are not deluxe rooms that you will find at the aforementioned resorts. Hope that helps.

I will be staying at MGM Grand & TI this June,Do you think the 20 dollar trick will work better ant the MGM airport check in or at the hotel? Do you know if the MGM would send my luggage over to TI or would I have to take it with me by cab? Thanks Dave

The general rule is that it works better at the hotel than at airport check-in stands… As far as moving your luggage, the easiest and fastest way to get it from MGM to TI is probably just to call the bellman, have them bring the bags down and put the in the cab. Have fun!

I forgot to ask another question about Harrah’s – I read the rooms have a sensor for turning on the A/C (no manual controls). Since we’ll be going in July, I was wondering how well that works. Thanks!

It actually works out okay… The idea is that the AC isn’t blaring while folks are out all day… It may be a little warmer when you first get to your room, but the system kicks in fast enough that it isn’t a large problem.

I’m going to Vegas July 27 – 31 I have booked the Golden Nugget for the 1st 2 nights @ $39 / night, I then want to go to the strip for our final 2 nights, what is the average room rate for a strip 4-5 star property, I am already expecting a bump up, but can I get anything decent for $90 / night for Wed -Thur?

In that timeframe you should be able to get a relatively good deal at many properties on the Strip for a midweek rate. Most offer some great Summer discounts and I’ve seen rates from Luxor at about $80 and Treasure Island about $85. Bellagio was advertising a $129/night midweek rate. I would check with each hotel’s Web site. Most contain special areas that are devoted to information on promotions. Signing up for hotel e-mail lists is also a good way to get this kind of information. Hope this helps.

I haven’t been to Las Vegas in 14 years. My best friend and I are leaving the kids w/their dads and want to know which tower to request at Harrah’s for a view of the strip, how high up should we be, and also which rooms are quietest? Is it possible to have a quiet room and also have a view of the Bellagio fountains? I think I saw the Carnaval Bar’s live music was a problem for some guests.

The ‘Carnival Tower’ is the newer tower and vastly superior to the original tower, now called the ‘Mardi Gras Tower’. The building is a slightly odd V-shaped configuration. If you got a room high enough, facing SW, you might be able to see some of the fountains at Bellagio, but it would be an obstructed view. You might be better off trying to get a room facing West and the Mirage volcano… Have a great time!

I found some good weekend rates in September for several hotels. I have stayed at TI before, and can get a “Petite Suite” for $164/night or at the Aladdin (where I’ve never stayed) in a Resort Vista Room for $159/night. The layout of the Resort Vista seems to be more open and inviting, as well as featuring many windows, but I do love TI… any insight? Thanks!

The resort vista rooms at the Aladdin are quite nice… The TI petite suites are also quite nice… The room at the Aladdin is newer, though TI was recent renovated… The location at the Aladdin is arguably better, though I don’t consider TI’s location poor. They have comparable food offerings, though the buffet at the Aladdin is much better than TI’s lousy buffet. Both have very boring pool areas… I think the service is better at TI and I like the casino a hell of a lot more. The people are nice and professional. The Aladdin casino crew are also good, but that place has never really got my blood boiling… I think it’s the design of the place… Anyway, I think they are both great choices. If you’ve never done the Aladdin, I might suggest trying it… But TI has a special place in my heart… Ok. I’ve rambled on long enough at this point.

Wynn Resorts are keeping the details on this one close to the vest. The site itself is progressing but they have decided not to release any renderings of the planned resort. We have been asked by the company not to feature construction details here on this Web site. For some time there was a model in the Wynn Resorts building lobby that showcased part of the ‘mountain’ feature, but that has been removed. By the end of 2003 the main tower should be topped off and construction on the low-rise buildings should be well underway. Your best bet is to walk by the site next time you are in town… It is amazing to see how fast these buildings can be put together.

I’m going to be staying at Paris at the end of June. My question is about the “P” corner rooms? Are they a higher priced room than a standard room? I’ll most likely be checking in at the airport around 11 am. What do you think the chances of getting a “P” room are?

They are usually sold for a slight premium, yes. Still, it is an upgrade that is sometimes given, depending on your luck… Checking in at the airport is tougher than at the desk in terms of upgrades… As far as the time of day, it’s really a crapshoot as to what helps… 11am is an early check-in, so you’ll only get upgraded if there is a ‘P’ room that is empty and clean. Checking in later can sometimes help, but if you check in too late, they are all gone… So, as you can see there is not definitive answer to this question… I wish you luck.

Hi..We are visiting Vegas in Sept…Staying at "Bally’s..I’ve heard from other post there are good and not so good rooms…Here is my question…When we check in at the airport for our rooms…should we at that time ask for a remodled room?? At this point all the rooms at Ballys have been remodeled, though the South tower rooms are still a bit newer… Checking in at the airport is a bit tough when trying to get upgrades… If you really want to go for an upgrade, you might want to check in at the hotel and sweet talk the clerk… Have a great time!

Hey, great site! I’ve been prepping for a trip in late July/early August. Just a few questions: What are the best bathrooms in a standard room on the Strip? (i.e. large bathtub, lots of space) Do you know of any hotels that offer a special military rates on rooms? Lastly, do you think that the $20 dollar trick would pack more punch with a complimentary sob story (I’ve been deployed overseas away from my girlfriend for 5 months)? The best standard bathrooms on the Strip are probably Aladdin (huge tubs), Bellagio, the Venetian and Caesars Palace (Palace Tower). Other than that, most of the bathrooms in the standard rooms are just standard bathrooms… There was a recent article in the Las Vegas Sun that stated that 70 Las Vegas hotels are participating in a program called “Operation Welcome Home”. Basically, present your military ID and get a discount between Armed Services Day (May 17th) and Independence Day (July 4th). So, I would ask the hotel. Perhaps they would extend it for you… Due to the overwhelming pride that US citizens feel toward their military, I think you have a pretty good chance with your sob story… Anyway, have a great trip.

I have a reservation for 3 nights at Bellagio from May 21- May 24. I have decided that to do everything in Vegas I’m interested in, I’d like to stay one more night. I was wondering if 4-6 hours of $25-$50 Blackjack play for the days I am booked would be enough for Bellagio to offer a casino rate on Saturday night at much less than the $399 rate currently being offered (or possibly a comped room) or if I should seek reservations in advance elsewhere. If it helps, I have a $5,000 front money deposit with the cage there, although it will be my first time visiting and gambling at Bellagio. Also how is the Light nightclub compared to some of the other more upscale club options on a Saturday night (rumjungle, Studio 54, etc). I am 25, but probably fit better with the 25-35 crowd than the 18-25 and would love to meet some beautiful women. I love your insight into all things Vegas and would be interested in your comments. The casino rate at Bellagio is usually around $100/night. 4-6 hours of $25-$50 21 should be able to get you casino rate but probably not an outright room comp. Having the cash on deposit will probably help you, since they’ll be able to track your play easier with the markers you take (though I wouldn’t advise this for less than $4k-$5k). To be perfectly honest, your best bet is to call the hotel and ask for a host. Explain your situation and how you are planning to play. They will tell you straight up if that play will qualify you for what you want and then all that will be left is to actually put in the time. Looks like the extra night you want to stay will be a Sunday. That will be easier to get since most weekend guests check out Sunday afternoon… Light is now one of the hottest clubs in the city. The average age range is probably 25-35 and it attracts quite a few celebrities as well… Lines can be long but since you’re staying and playing at the ‘B’, just ask a pit boss for a VIP pass and you’ll skip the line. Have a great trip, sounds like fun.

Hello again. Hope you can help. Could you tell me – does the Gold Coast provide towels for around the pool and are there safety deposit boxes and hairdryers in the room?
We’re staying for two weeks on a package trip from the UK – is it worth trying the $20 trick to try and get a suite for the fortnight?

Towels will be provided for the pool, no need to pack them. The Gold Coast does not have in-room safes, but the front desk can put items into their safe for you. Hair dryers are available upon request… As far as the $20 trick, never hurts to try. No way to predict the outcome however… Think of it as your first gamble.
